The Story Behind Lilac City Vegan Soap

The “Lilac City” nickname cvis deeply rooted in the history of Spokane. In 1906, J.J. Browne planted the first lilac bushes in the area, sparking what would become a lasting tradition. A few years later, in 1912, a major planting took place at Manito Park, where the plants thrived in the region’s climate.

By the 1930s, Spokane experienced a full “lilac craze,” with blooms appearing throughout the city each spring. This passion led to the creation of the Spokane Lilac Festival in 1938, a celebration that continues today and showcases more than 100 lilac cultivars.
